St. John the Evangelist Church Logo

St. John the Evangelist Church
Our patron, St. John the Evangelist, is symbolized by an eagle — that majestic sky creature. John starts with an eternal overview of Jesus “the Word of God” and goes on to describe many things with a “higher” understanding of who Christ is. Put another way, St. John conveys a high “Christology”.

Other elements of the logo include two superimposed Greek letters: the Chi (X) and the Rho (P) which are the first two letters of the word “Christ” in the Greek. These two letters put together in this way form an ancient symbol for Jesus Christ. This image is a little faded in our logo, indicating we must seek and search for Christ so that His message and mission can become more clearly appreciated by us.

Finally, the eagle’s wings form around a disk – reminiscent of the Eucharistic Host. No other Gospel speaks as beautifully about the presents of Jesus Christ in the Eucharist as does St. John’s Gospel.
