Altar Care
This very rewarding ministry involves the care of the altar, sacristy, and chapel. The care takes place after Mass on Tuesdays and Fridays at 9:30am.
Altar Servers
Adults - serve at the 9:00 AM weekday Mass and Funerals
Children - serve at the weekend Masses, boys and girls, grade 3 and up, who have made their first Communion may become Altar Servers.Bereavement
The Bereavement Ministry is a committed, caring group. One or two parishioners accompany the priest to the Funeral Home at the beginning of the wake. The ministers serve as representatives of the parish community to pray for the deceased and to pray with and for the bereaved family and friends. Pat MacEnroe heads the committe. Usually members of the Bereavement Committee help at the All Souls Mass and Reception.
Catechist
With our thriving Religious Education program, catechists are always needed to share in Christ’s mission and to echo God’s word.
Child Church
Available at the 10:30 Mass. Child Church is for pre-school children and up. Before the readings begin, the children are led into the Hayes Room by a Child Church Leader and the readings are presented to them on their own level and with activities. They return to church during the preparation of the gifts.
Choir & Music
Led by our Music Director, Thilda Orrico, St. John’s has an Adult Choir, a Junior Choir and a Funeral Choir. The adult choir sings from mid-September through mid-June at most Sunday 10:30 Masses and on holidays. The junior choir starts rehearsals in late October and sings once a month at the Sunday, 10:30 Mass. They also sing at the Vigil Mass on Christmas Eve and at both First Communion celebrations. The Funeral Choir is used on an as-needed basis with very dedicated parishioners. We have a Folk Group that sings at the Saturday Night Vigil, and a Ladies Ensemble. The choirs are open to all who would like to participate. Junior choir is open to all children grades 3 and up. Cantors (or song leaders) are also members of the choir.
Coffee/Cookie & Social
Once a month, after the 10:30 Mass, a social is held in the auditorium for coffee, cookies and a chance for parishioners to get together informally.
CYO
Open to teens in grades 9-12 and meets most Sunday evenings at 7:00 PM to plan activities. Some traditional ones include the Haunted House, Giving Tree, selling Advent Candles, Breakfast with Santa, etc. The activities are planned by the teens.
Sister Martha is their advisor.Eucharistic Ministers
Eucharistic Ministers assist the priests in distributing the Body and Blood of Christ at the Sunday and weekday Masses.
Family Faith & Gathering
People of all ages come together to deepen their faith through talks, activities and prayer. This is the vision of Whole Community Catechesis. These programs are offered at various times throughout the year.
Fellowship/Hospitality
This group of parishioners offers Funeral Luncheons to parishioners and their families after a funerals here at St. John’s, downstairs in the Hayes Room. They have started the Pot Luck Dinners, the St. Patrick’s Day Dinner, the Christmas Brunch, and also provide refreshments for special occasions. They meet the third Wednesday of the month, after the 9:00 AM Mass in the Hayes Room.

The first Friday of the month there is a fellowship coffee hour after the 9:00 AM Mass in the Church vestibule.
Garden Care
Volunteer parishioners lend their time and talent to sprucing up the grounds, planting flowers, weeding, watering, etc.
Giving Tree
CYO annually places trees in Church that have stars with Christmas gift items for the needy. Parishioners are invited to take a star, purchase and wrap the gift and return it with the star attached by the designated date.
Lector
Lectors will read the first two readings and act as commentators and read the Prayer of the Faithful. Lectors are used at the weekend Masses and both the daily Masses.

Parent/Child Playgroup
Parents and young children come together in our newly formed playgroup for playtime, crafts, seasonal activities, etc. They meet Tuesday mornings, 9:15-11:15, downstairs in the Nursery Room.

Usually in the first or second week of September at the New Hartford Town Park. Chairperson is selected every year.
Thanksgiving Baskets
Cash contributions are collected and food is purchased in bulk. Volunteers put the baskets together and the needy families in our area appreciate the effort put forth by a great many people.
Ushers
Help to seat people, select families to bring down the gifts and do the collections.
Visitation Ministry
Wanda Gregory heads this ministry of visiting the homebound, parishioners in nursing homes and those hospitalized. Gifts for Christmas and Easter are purchased and distributed. Once a year a workshop is held for visitation volunteers. Volunteers also bring Communion, fellowship and the news of their church to those they visit. This ministry also sets up Masses and Services at Sunset Wood, Point Apartments and Presbyterian Residential Community for the residents there.
Social Ministry
Angels Among Us, St. John the Evangelist Parish Social Ministry, is rooted in the values of peace, justice, and love as preached by Jesus Christ.
